What are the Signs and Symptoms of Swine Flu H1N1 Virus?

I would like to know where to get information on the Signs and Symptoms of Swine Flu H1N1 Virus.
Also, how to fight the Swine Flu and how to protect my family.

1. Symptoms:
The typical symptoms of swine flu are:
a sudden fever (a high body temperature of 38°C/100.4°F or above), and
a sudden cough.

You may also have:
headache,
tiredness,
chills,
aching muscles,
limb or joint pain,
diarrhea or stomach upset,
sore throat,
runny nose,
sneezing, or
loss of appetite.

2. How to protect your family:

The virus spreads from tiny droplets of water that are sprayed when you talk, cough, laugh, sneeze, or spit. The droplets spray about 3 feet (1 meter) in distance. They are not visible. You can be unknowingly exposed to the infected droplets if you are within 3 feet of an infected person. To avoid infection you can stop hand-shaking, kissing, avoid crowded spaces, and stay away from people who appear to be ill. Wash your hands often, don’t touch your face, get plenty of sleep, and eat heathy foods to otherwise boost your immune system.

According to the CDC and WHO, the pandemic H1N1 virus is mild *relative to previous pandemics of 1918 and 1957*. The symptoms are generally severe, according to the nurses at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and include sudden onset of high fever, headache, chills, body aches, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea. Some people develop a runny nose and sneezing. A cough will develop. If there is shortness of breath, seek emergency medical attention.

If you are part of a high risk group (i.e. asthma, diabetes, pregnancy, HIV+, organ transplant recipient, obesity), oseltamivir (Tamiflu) when taken within 48 hours of the onset of fever, is safe and effective for pandemic H1N1 influenza.

You can protect your family by wearing a surgical mask during the course of the illness so your phlegm and other secretions don’t escape the mask when you cough. You should also practice regular and thorough hand washing.

Get plenty of bed rest and drink plenty of fluids. Eat frequent, light meals as this keeps the immune system strong. Never "starve a fever".

The mortality rate associated with pandemic influenza in the hardest hit areas of the world has been 1 in 200. Fifteen percent of people with pandemic H1N1 on average have been hospitalized. One in three pregnant women in hardest hit countries have died from this virus.

Most people though will recover uneventfully. It is, for most, a bad flu.
Some people get a mild case, but this is not the norm.

If you are part of a high risk group, consult with your doctor, because he/she may prescribe Tamiflu if you fall ill with pandemic H1N1.

Good luck and take care. Get plenty of sleep and eat properly to lower the risk of catching it. The risk of catching it is 30 to 50 percent after being exposed to someone who is ill. The incubation period is 1 to 7 days and you are infectious for 8 to 10 days.
